 RISD NEWS
RISD RECOGNIZED AGAIN!!!
The Texas Education Agency has confirmed that Richardson Independent School District has again earned the distinction of being a "Recognized" school district, based on 2006-2007 student performance. It marks the second consecutive year RISD has earned the distinction, the largest urban district in Texas to do so.

"Congratulations are in order for our talented and dedicated teachers, support staff, PTA, community partners and students," said RISD Superintendent Dr. David Simmons. "While we will continue to address our challenges, this news is further recognition of something our community has known for a long time - RISD is an excellent place to receive an enriching, well-rounded education."

In addition to maintaining its Recognized rating, RISD increased its number of "Exemplary" rated campuses by 50 percent. Overall, 81 percent of rated campuses are either Exemplary or Recognized, compared with 79 percent a year ago.

RISD LANDS 18 ON THE TBEC Honor Roll - MOST IN TEXAS!

The non-profit Texas Business and Education Coalition (TBEC) has announced its 2007 Honor Roll schools, and RISD had 18 campuses earn the prestigious recognition, the most of any district in the state.

"Congratulations to the teachers, students, parents, administrators and support staff at these campuses," said RISD Superintendent Dr. David Simmons. "On the heels of our other recent successes, this news really adds to the district's momentum heading into the new year. The RISD community, and these campuses in particular, have much to be proud of."

TBEC identifies Honor Roll schools by analyzing three years of performance data for all Texas public schools. A school must have a high percentage of students meeting state standards on the TAKS tests in all subjects for three consecutive years, with an emphasis on how many students score at the state’s highest standard – commended – on all tests. Selection criteria account also for each school’s student demographics, the number of subjects tested and the grades served.

"..being named a TBEC Honor Roll school is the most prestigious academic award any Texas public school can receive," said TBEC Deputy Executive Director Ken Zornes. "Honor Roll schools not only have a high percentage of students meeting the state’s standards on all tests, they also have the highest percentage of students performing at the state’s most rigorous standard, commended, in every subject. Of the more than 8000 Texas public schools, less than 5% will be so honored in 2007."

RISD RECEIVES HEB EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION AWARD!
Richardson ISD has been named the winner of the prestigious HEB Excellence in Education Award for large districts in Texas.

After being named one of five statewide finalists, a selection committee conducted a comprehensive site visit in March to evaluate district operations, performance, educational philosophy and learning culture.

At that time, the district received a check for $5,000, and as part of winning, HEB is awarding RISD an additional $100,000.

"I couldn't be more proud of our district," said RISD Superintendent Dr. David Simmons. "Our talented teachers, administrators and support staff work incredibly hard to serve the children of our community, and it's so gratifying when those efforts are recognized on such a grand scale."
